The Fox Valley Sustainability Network will explore opportunities for solar energy development in our region on June 21st
With the advent of the recently passed Illinois Future Energy Jobs Act, communities across Illinois are positioning themselves to develop and procure renewable energy.

Learn about NREL's technical assistance model for moving communities toward 100% renewable energy and a new Chicago region collaboration that will equip community teams with resources and planning support to implement community solar projects and road maps toward 100% renewable energy procurement.

Hear an overview of the Future Energy Jobs Act and new developments regarding logistics and programs for low-income solar access, community and rooftop solar.
Zach Greene, Program Manager, SolSmart
Get more information about the FREE technical assistance that SolSmart can provide to Fox Valley communities to help them become more "solar ready."

Recycling Extravaganza
Kane County will hosts its annual recycling event on July 8th
Kane County is once again hosting an annual recycling extravaganza event that includes free document shredding on Saturday, July 8th, 2017 from 8am - 12 noon, at 540 S Randall Road in St. Charles. Please see the EVENT POSTER for more details, and please read below information to make the most of your event experience!
Tips for optimal event experience
- Please arrive between the hours of 8am and 11:45am for optimal service. Please do not arrive early, as it creates a pile up before we even begin. Thank you.
- It is recommended that you approach on the North-bound side of Randall, coming up from 38 towards 64, so that you can easily turn right, into the event at the Kane County Traffic Court building. If you approach on the South-bound side of Randall, you may have difficulty turning left into the event site across the oncoming traffic, and the lineup creates a traffic flow problem on Randall.
- Please check out this MAP of the event to see the order in which things will be unloaded so that you can pack your car accordingly. This helps us to serve you more efficiently.
- Stop into Colonial Café for brunch after recycling! You will receive a discount coupon as you go through the event that you can use right away!
Costs
- TVs and Computer Monitors have a recycling fee paid directly to the non-profit recycler ($25 for screens under 21" - measured diagonally across the screen, or $35 for screens 21" and over), payable by the resident with cash or card.
- Latex Paint has a recycling fee per container ($3.50/gal), payable by the resident with cash or check.

Registration is now open for Healthy Communities Workshops sponsored by the IL Chapter of the American Planning Association
The American Planning Association - Illinois Chapter is working to integrate health into planning for the built environment. Two, half-day workshops are being offered to advance this work at the community level by identifying barriers, connecting potential partners and providing technical assistance.

Who should attend?
Anyone working on community-based strategies for improving health (including physical activity and active transportation, open space initiatives, food access and healthy food, zoning and land use). The workshop is designed for planners, architects, engineers, public health practitioners, health care providers, elected officials, community organization representatives, and advocates who are ready to start or advance this work in their community.
Cost: $15
To encourage partnerships and collaboration, bring one partner from another department or organization in your community for FREE (you must register together).
Fee waivers will be considered for public agencies and non-profit organizations on a case-by-case basis.

Downtown Aurora Master Plan
The City of Aurora and CMAP to host public open house for downtown master planning effort
The City of Aurora will hold a public open house for its new Downtown Master Plan from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, June 22, in the Meyer Ballroom of the Paramount Theatre (8 E. Galena Blvd., Aurora). New Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin will give opening remarks at the meeting. The plan is supported by the CMAP Local Technical Assistance (LTA) program.
The public will have several opportunities to participate in the planning process. The City of Aurora, in partnership with CMAP, will embark on a series of outreach meetings with City leadership, business representatives, and the community to solicit and incorporate local input to the planning process. We also invite your participation through various social media outlets.
